Absolutely!
In fact, some of the people we love most in our community came with lots of questions and little church background. We don’t assume prior knowledge, use insider language, or make anyone feel out of place for not having it all figured out.
Our Sunday services are designed to be accessible, honest, and genuinely helpful whether you’ve been a Christian for decades or you’re just beginning to wonder if any of it is true.

Community Life & Small Groups
-
Yes! And they’re central to who we are. We call them Communities: smaller groups of people who meet weekly in homes throughout Sonoma to study Scripture, pray, share meals, and practice the way of Jesus in everyday life.
If you’re looking for more than just a Sunday service—if you want to actually know people and be known—a Community is the next step.
-
Communities meet roughly weekly in homes around the Sonoma Valley. They’re built around the rhythms of shared life—reading the Bible together, praying for one another, eating meals, and serving the city. They also partner with local organizations working for good in our community. Think less “Bible study group” and more “group of friends doing life together around Jesus.”
-
The best on-ramp is our Basics course—a short introductory experience offered 2–3 times per year that walks you through the mission, values, and rhythms of Sonoma Collective. From there, new Communities are formed or you’re connected with existing ones near where you live. Learn more at sonomacollective.com/basics.
-
We believe every person has something to contribute—the church isn’t a place you just attend, it’s a community you belong to and build. Whether it’s hospitality, music, helping with Collective Kids, or serving the broader Sonoma community, there’s a place for your gifts here.

What We Believe
-
We hold to the historic teachings of Christian Orthodoxy as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed, and affirm the Lausanne Covenant and Cape Town Commitment. In short—we believe in the God of the Bible: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; in the life, death, resurrection, and return of Jesus; and in the Scriptures as the inspired, authoritative Word of God.
-
Yes. We believe the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God—our primary guide for faith and life.
Our teachings are rooted in careful, honest engagement with Scripture, aimed at helping people understand what the Bible actually says and how to live it out in real, everyday life in Sonoma and the surrounding valley.
-
At the center of everything we do is a simple vision: to be apprentices of Jesus. That means ordering our lives around three goals—be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. We believe that as we live this way together, our lives, our families, and our city will be transformed.
-
Yes. Sonoma Collective is a non-denominational Christian church. While we hold firmly to the essential doctrines of historical Christianity that Christians across all traditions share, we are not formally aligned with any denomination. We value the breadth and depth of the broader church—both ancient tradition and contemporary expression—and hold secondary matters with humility and grace.
-
We dream of seeing God’s kingdom come in the Sonoma Valley—that His will would be done in Sonoma as it is in Heaven. We want to be a Christian community marked by love, generosity, and radical welcome, partnering with God in His pursuit to make things right in our city and in the world.
Giving
-
We believe it is better to give than to receive—and we want to become a people marked by radical generosity. Financial giving is one of the most tangible ways to participate in what God is doing in and through this community. It’s not about obligation; it’s an invitation to join God in something bigger than ourselves.
-
A minimum of 10% of every dollar donated goes directly to support ministries and justice work both locally in Sonoma and globally. The remainder sustains the practical operations of our church—Sunday gatherings, Collective Kids and Youth, staffing, and the many ways we serve the Sonoma Valley community. We are committed to being good, transparent stewards of what is entrusted to us.

You can give online at sonomacollective.com/give.
You may also give in person at any Sunday gathering.

Jason Mayer serves as Lead Pastor of Sonoma Collective. He holds a Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministries and brings years of pastoral and church-planting experience to his role. He’s passionate about people in Sonoma experiencing God’s love and encountering the beauty of a life formed around Jesus. You can meet and learn more about the leadership of our church here.
-
Sonoma Collective began gathering monthly in April 2022 and transitioned to regular weekly Sunday gatherings in October 2023.
